Seminar: B&B Announces Almaraz/Guzman "Knock Out" Defense Strategies
"Too many defendants view these cases as insurmountable," stated Don Barthel, referring to Almaraz/Guzman and Ogilvie en banc opinions. "We don't believe the hype. We've got too many defense strategies–and too many years of experience–to throw in the towel. These opinions can be defense weapons if used properly."

Mr. Barthel noted that Bradford & Barthel, LLP, "recently filed a Writ in Guzman and Governor Schwarzenegger has publicly expressed confidence we will succeed. I share the Governor’s confidence."

Aimed at preparing defendants for the Almaraz/Guzman/Ogilvie battle, the Bradford & Barthel defense law firm is sponsoring a series of seminars on the Almaraz/Guzman decision this month in Newport Beach, Sacramento and Oakland. Don Barthel will be the keynote speaker at the seminar, titled "The Fight of the Century! Bradford & Barthel vs. Almaraz/Guzman."

Bradford & Barthel attorney John "Jack" Costello was the defense attorney in the Guzman v. Milpitas Unified School District, one of the two consolidated cases that the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board took up before issuing the Almaraz/Guzman decision on February 3, 2009, said Don Barthel in a column posted on his firm's website. The firm's Reconsideration and Writ Department filed a Writ with the Court of Appeals (6th) last month, Barthel said.

The cost is $40 for participants registering at least one week in advance and $50 at the door.
