Judy Segerstrom Barrett was born in Frankfurt, Germany. She came to America at the age of six and was raised in Southern California. She is a citizen of both the United States and Germany.
Ms. Barrett was active in the restaurant business since the age of 13. She managed restaurants for large corporations, often traveling to open new restaurants. She lived 20 years in Palm Springs after graduating from college, and she continued to manage a large restaurant chain. While living in Palm Springs, she was a police volunteer officer with the Palm Springs Police Department for 15 years.
After many years in the restaurant business, she attended law school with the anticipation and hope of becoming a Deputy District Attorney. She received her Juris Doctorate in 1988 and was admitted to the State Bar of California in December 1988. In 1996, she was admitted to the State Bar of Arizona. She is also admitted to the United States District Court, and she has served Judge Pro Tem Riverside County Desert Judicial Branch. She maintains membership in the Riverside County Bar Association, National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA), and Southern California Association of Health Risk Managers (SCAHRM).
Ms. Barrett joined the law firm of Bradford & Barthel in January of 2001 and practiced at the Rancho Cucamonga office until October of 2003, when she transferred to the Fullerton office to eventually become the managing attorney at that office until September of 2007. Now she is in charge of special projects.
Previous legal experience includes nearly 15 years of medical malpractice defense for the Law Office of Tuverson & Hillyard in Palm Springs. She then opened her own practice in Palm Springs specializing in personal injury and family law, until she met her husband and moved to Arizona in 1996. She was then associated with the Maricopa County Public Defender's Office. Upon returning to California from Arizona, she joined the law firm of LaFollette and Johnson, once again defending medical organizations.
Ms. Barrett currently specializes in workers' compensation and the ADR program utilized by various union organizations. She is a Certified Specialist, Workers' Compensation Section, State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. She also teaches AMA Guides (5th Edition) classes for IEA.
Ms. Barrett has been married to Chuck for nearly eight years. She is a certified scuba diver. She is active in the Riverside County and Orange County Bar Associations. She also owns a plumbing service company with her husband. Both are active in the community, and they are members of the Yorba Linda Friends Community Church.
