Although Sandra Brownfield was born in Orange County, Florida, after her father retired from the Air Force in 1963, she became a permanent resident of Orange County, California. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology in 1966 from California State University, Fullerton. She received a Juris Doctorate in 1975 and was admitted to the State Bar of California that same year.
Prior to being admitted to the Bar, Ms. Brownfield was an employee of the State of California Department of Disability Evaluation. In that employment, the disability analysts worked closely with medical doctors to evaluate Social Security Disability applications through the reconsideration process. A decided interest in workers' compensation developed during the course of being the agency's liaison with the Workers' Compensation Appeals Boards.
Ms. Brownfield's career in workers' compensation defense commenced in 1978. Her experience in workers' compensation has included employment with The Hartford, Mission Insurance Company, Western Employers Insurance Company, Continental Insurance Company, and Industrial Indemnity.
Ms. Brownfield joined Bradford & Barthel in 1999, bringing along her prior two decades of solid defense experience.
Ms. Brownfield's major interests outside of practicing workers' compensation defense include musical theater, movies, and books. Ms. Brownfield is an ardent Laker and Dodger fan and a supporter of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art where she has been a member for over 20 years.
Sandra Brownfield's 25+ years experience in workers' compensation defense includes practice at all of the northern and southern California Workers' Compensation Appeals Boards. Major clients represented include Hughes Aircraft, TWA, and McDonnell Douglas/Boeing Aircraft.
According to Ms. Brownfield, workers' compensation, though always challenging, is certainly never boring, and she continues to hold firm the belief that legislative changes make continued dedication to keeping abreast of legislative developments a necessity. What makes the practice of workers' compensation unique for Ms. Brownfield is the fact that the new files continue to present unique factual situations and issues never before addressed. She continues to endeavor diligently to make sure that the many promising aspects of SB 899 are of real benefit to the employers and employees of the state of California.
