Tim McCaughey received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Pomona College in Claremont, California in 1974. Prior to college, he was an American Field Service foreign exchange student in Belgium, where he became fluent in the French and Flemish languages. After undergraduate school, he enrolled in Law School at the University of Santa Clara, from which he acquired his Juris Doctorate in 1977. Upon graduation, the Dean of the Law School offered him the position of Director of Placement for the Law School, which Tim held for two years.
Upon leaving the University, Mr. McCaughey embarked on his legal career in insurance claims and defense litigation in the Bay Area. In 1997, he moved to the Central Valley to join the Fireman's Fund staff counsel office in Fresno. Upon the closing of the Fireman's Fund staff counsel office in 2001, he moved into the area of Workers' Compensation litigation.
Mr. McCaughey has served as a Judge Pro Tem at the Santa Clara and Fresno County Superior Courts and has been an arbitrator and mediator in civil litigation. Additionally, he spent many years as an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau Autoline arbitration service.
In addition to practicing law, Mr. McCaughey has held various honorary positions in non-profit organizations, including the University of Santa Clara School of Law Board of Visitors, St. Louise Hospital in Morgan Hill, and St. Catherine's Church in Morgan Hill. He also has taught Sunday School and coached youth soccer.
Mr. McCaughey was a restaurant critic for the McClatchy Newspaper chain in the Morgan Hill/Gilroy area. Currently, he is a member of the High Sierra Ski Patrol and the National Ski Patrol. He patrols at Sierra Summit resort, where he is a certified Outdoor Emergency Care Technician.
