|George Markos is a graduate of California State University Northridge where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He attended University of La Verne College of Law and received his Juris Doctorate. While at the University of Laverne, he was elected as president of the Student Body Association for the College of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar of California on June 15, 1988, and the United States Central and Southern District Court in 1988.
Mr. Markos gained insurance defense experience as a coverage and liability claims examiner. He began his workers’ compensation experience as in-house counsel for Hartford Insurance. While at Hartford, he received training under David Bjelland, currently a WCAB judge in San Bernardino. Later, he expanded his legal expertise by joining the plaintiffs’ and applicants’ firm of Zakuto and Lang, where he undertook multiple workers’ compensation and civil trials throughout the courts of California.
After participating as lead counsel in complex jury litigation in both the Municipal and Superior courts of the State of California, Mr. Markos became associated with the well established, 75-year old Law Offices of Jones, Nelson, Screeton and Cornforth in the late 1990s. In his 20 plus years of defense workers’ compensation litigation experience, he has appeared at virtually every WCAB, has mentored many current applicants’ and defense counsel early in their careers, and has undertaken management responsibilities in his prior positions.
Additionally, Mr. Markos has lectured for I.E.A (Insurance Educational Association) and has trained in the area of subrogation and significant case law as well as various workers’ compensation topics. With a long history and developed experience in the field of workers’ compensation and subrogation, he will provide any client the confidence needed to handle all areas of litigation in workers’ compensation.
Fluent in Greek and an excellent musician, Mr. Markos plays the bouzouki and has performed as a jazz musician, playing trombone over the past 25 years. In his spare time, he serves as the current President of the Southern California American Motors Club, indulging in his joy of restoring antique cars.
