Tahmeena I. Ahmed, Esq.

Tahmeena Ahmed is a Senior Partner and the Managing Attorney for the Firm’s Tarzana office. Ms. Ahmed received her Bachelor of Arts degree as a member of the Honors College, majoring in Psychology, from the University of Illinois, Chicago. After earning an American Jurisprudence Award in Torts, an Academic Achievement Award in Employment Law, and her Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law in San Diego in 1992, she practiced entertainment, civil, and bankruptcy law. She joined Johnston & Auerbach in 1994 as in-house defense counsel for Fremont Compensation Insurance Company. Focusing on Fremont’s “zero tolerance” policy, she spent the next four years aggressively litigating thousands of cases and brought that expertise to Bradford & Barthel, LLP in July of 1998. Ms. Ahmed became Managing Attorney for the Tarzana office in December of 2000. She was then named Partner in April of 2002. During her tenure as the managing attorney, the Tarzana office has flourished, growing from 2 to 19 attorneys, making this office one of the largest and most experienced in the firm. She was named Managing Partner, Client Relations, in 2011.

With her years of successful litigation experience, Ms. Ahmed is routinely selected by clients for her negotiation skills and her creative approaches to resolution. Additionally, she has expanded her practice of workers’ compensation defense to include Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) via mediations and arbitrations dealing with Collective Bargaining Agreements and Carve-Out programs. Ms. Ahmed is a Certified Specialist, Workers’ Compensation Section, State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. She was approved as a Statewide Arbitrator effective July 26, 2007. She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Central District of California and the Supreme Court of the State of California.

Representative Cases

  • Ms. Ahmed represented a carrier in a multi-party, multi-lawsuit mediation involving several types of claims. She subsequently managed to obtain dismissal of the workers’ comp case in a coverage dispute saving the client 2 million dollars if the craniotomy were to be found to be industrial based on independent contractor status.
  • Ms. Ahmed obtained settlement of a case as soon as the substitution of attorney was signed where prior defense counsel failed to take depo, obtain medicals, or conduct discovery after two years of handling.
  • Ms. Ahmed settled on terms favorable to the defense after applicant asserted Ogilvie arguments, demanded 200K, and received it from prior counsel. She settled the case ultimately for around 100K less than the prior recommendation made by prior counsel.
  • Ms. Ahmed settled a case on terms favorable to the defense despite employer confirmation of alleged harrassment at a company holiday party, applicant was in continuous psychiatric treatment, and had subsequent assault within days of being terminated.
  • She also litigated a highly complex tetriplegia case involving employment, coverage, going-and-coming rule, special mission exceptions, where applicant was considered an employee of a security company, which remained wilfully uninsured during applicants injury which left him with future medical needs valued at over 20 million over the course of his life.

 

Personal Life
Happily married for 20 years, Ms. Ahmed is the proud mother of two beautiful daughters, Alina and Henna. Being conversant in several languages, she hopes to some day convince the firm to add “global traveler” to her job duties.
